Mou makes shock Wenger statement

After famously labelling Arsene Wenger 'the specialist in failure', former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has made a surprising statement about the Frenchman.

Wenger and Mourinho provided nearly a decade of enthralling entertainment on and off the pitch in the English top-flight as the two London rival managers clashed often over exchanges of words and altercations.

However, it appears the rivalry has diminished since Wenger ended his 22-year association with the Gunners at the end of last season.

The three-time Premier League winner received the lifetime achievement prize at the Laureus World Sport Awards in Monaco on Monday and Mourinho paid homage to his legacy.

"There were some episodes along the road," Mourinho said in a video message about the manager who led his former side to an unbeaten 2003/04 season, as per ESPN FC.

"I can only speak by myself. I really enjoyed the competition. But the real respect was always there.

"He made lots of history in that football club. The nickname is there - the 'Invincibles.'

"Amazing. A coaching philosophy, the almost perfect team. He is one of the best football managers in the history of football."
