Lakay had 'contractual challenges'

SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo says they could do very little to hold onto Fagrie Lakay, who joined Bidvest Wits in the January transfer window.
Talks of Lakay possibly joining the Clever Boys on a pre-contract started doing the rounds in early January, but he ended up joining the Absa Premiership leaders on a permanent deal in the final week of the transfer window, as Mxolisi Macuphu went the other way on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old Lakay, who can play on the wing or as a striker, is one of the country’s brightest prospects and has been tipped to be a Bafana Bafana in future. He played seven league matches before leaving Matsatsantsa, but it yet to make an appearance for his new employers.
“With Fagrie it had to do with contractual challenges,” Tembo says.
“I think he decided to move because probably he was offered more, you know how it is. His contract was coming to an end and we could not do anything to stop him. It was his decision and we have got to move on from that.”
SuperSport, meanwhile, will host Orlando Pirates at Mbombela Stadium in a league match on Wednesday night (19h30).
