Former Bidvest Wits and Chippa United midfielder Ofentse Nato is awaiting trial following his arrest for stock-theft, according to Mmegi newspaper in Botswana.

Nato and his co-accused, whose name was not disclosed, were in possession of two goats which they were unable to account for. They appeared before Mogobane Customary Court on Tuesday, facing a single count of stock-theft and will appear again on February 19 for trial.

According to the article, the two gentlemen were stopped and searched while driving a Honda Fit near the Kudumatse intersection.

Mmegi spoke to Ramotswa Police Station commander superintendent Keoagile Tau, who said: “They were taken to Naledi Police Station where they failed to account for the goats when interrogated by the police. The goats were traced back to Mogobane village and their owner denied any involvement with the duo concerning his goats.”

Nato plays for Botswana Premier League giants Township Rollers, but he went AWOL in November last year and only returned to the club three weeks ago.

Towards the end of the transfer window in Botswana, Nato is said to have approached his former club Gaborone United, hoping to get a deal, but they rejected him.

Since returning from Atletico Kolkata in India two years ago, Nato’s career has been on a decline and his arrest and off the field behaviour could spell the end for him.
