Baxter hoping to recall Bartlett

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter is hoping Kaizer Chiefs will allow assistant coach Shaun Bartlett to return to the national team setup for their final AFCON qualifying camp.
Bafana are set to face Libya in their final 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on March 22, with a venue – expected to be in Tunisia – still to be confirmed.
Baxter has pulled all the stops in preparation for the crunch encounter, even going as far as requesting the Premier Soccer League to reschedule fixtures so as to get the local players in camp a few days early.
Though one component that still hangs in the balance is his technical team, which saw his former assistant Bartlett snapped up by Chiefs in December.
The Briton conceded that there is no contingency plan from SAFA as yet and hopes that Amakhosi will allow for the former striker to return on an interim basis.
“It’s not been 100 percent cleared with Chiefs yet,” said Baxter.
“The initial signals we got was that, when Shaun moved over, they would like him to be a Chiefs asset and not a national asset as well.
“But I think that stance has softened slightly. We haven’t got a 100 percent call on that.”
Baxter further confirmed that national under-17 coach, who has been an ever-present since his return to the fold, would definitely be part of his technical team.
“Molefe will certainly be with me, and after that, we want to take people who know what they’re doing. We don’t want to be inducting new people into the squad if at all possible.”
