AmaZulu coach Cavin Johnson believes Sibusiso Mabiliso is at the same level as Cape Town City winger Gift Links and feels he’ll will gain a lot from spending time with the national U-20 squad.

Amajita went into camp this week to start their preparations for the U-20 African Nations Cup, which is taking place in Niger from February 2 to 17.

Johnson decided to release the defender for international duty after his club faced Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs at King Zwelithini Stadium in midweek.

"As a club we've decided to release him to be part of the national team," Johnson said.

"We believe it will help him in his progress as a player.

"Being in the national team gives any player an opportunity to grow and it exposes you to better things."

Johnson, who handed Mabiliso his PSL debut, revealed he has known the 19-year-old for a decade.

"Most don't know, I've known Sibusiso since he was nine years old," said the former Platinum Stars mentor.

"I saw him in some street near Sun City with my former colleague Mbatha, during our time when we were opening the Platinum Stars academy.

"He has too much quality for a young lad. He's at the same level as Gift Links, they have a bright future."

The U-20 AFCON will also serve as a qualifier for the U-20 World Cup, taking place in Poland from May 23 to June 15 this year.
