Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp is enjoying the respect he receives from the team and the "beautiful football" being delivered by his charges.

Middendorp has registered five wins and two losses in all competitions since replacing the sacked Giovanni Solinas at Naturena in December 2018.

Asked about Chiefs' improved showing since he took over the reins, Middendorp was careful not to cause offence to Solinas.

"Look, I don't and will never disrespect the former coach," Middendorp said after his side's 3-2 league win over AmaZulu at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on Wednesday night.

"I was given a mandate to lead the team and I would like us to focus on today and tomorrow."

The German added: "We all make mistakes. I'm happy at the fact that the players are respectful and the mood is good in the camp.

"We are playing beautiful football."

The victory over Usuthu lifted the Glamour Boys to fifth on the log with 27 points from 18 games - six points adrift of leaders Bidvest Wits, who have a match in hand.

Chiefs next host Zambian outfit ZESCO United at FNB Stadium on Saturday looking to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup play-off round tie in Ndola.
