Middendorp: Fans must be educated

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has urged everyone at the club to work together to improve the situation at Naturena.

The German coach was speaking after their comfortable 3-0 win against ASSM Elgeco Plus in the CAF Confederation Cup first round, first leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium last night.

Middendorp says he is not the only one who is under pressure to deliver at the club.

"Look, I'm not the only one who is under pressure, i believe everyone in the club must play their part in reclaiming the glory days at Naturena."

The coach also urged fans to support his players after Leonardo Castro was booed as he was struggling in the first half. Castro, though, went on to score a brace in the second half.

"We need to educate our supporters in treating our players. Castro might not be entertaining but is a natural goal scorer, we must appreciate our players and be patient."

Middendorp was so impressed by his players and believes it will be hard to add new signings in the January transfer.

"We can't say we won't add new faces, we are currently in talks in behind the scenes, it will be hard especially as we have quality players, unfortunately they were not giving 100 % which affected the club, we spoiled with quality."

Chiefs will travel to Madagascar for next Saturday's second leg as they hope to qualify for the play-off round, just before the group stages.
