The German began his reign with a 1-0 win over SuperSport United in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday night.

Middendorp was quick to praise his defensive central pairing following the side's troubles at the back in recent matches.

“I think well deserved three points what was important for us today [having] the short period to prepare, I think we’ve seen a good game, good performance from the players,” the former Maritzburg United coach told SuperSport TV after the match.

“I want to mention in case we have another misunderstanding. I think Daniel Cardoso and Mario Booysen a good solid centre back combination.

“We should have went for the second goal in the second half to make it a bit calm but I must say I’m very happy [about the performance].”

The German tactician lamented that he has seen lack of confidence in his players in the few training sessions he’s had with them and they will only get it back by getting used to winning once again.

“I see it in the training sessions when you normally can control the ball, easily do the right stuff and find the finishing. Crossing the ball to the centre when there’s no body. This is something to do with confidence. With every experience of getting the three points and getting a better position in the league it will get better I’m sure,” he concluded.
