Marks: Chiefs players must look at themselves

Kaizer Chiefs legend Marks Maponyane feels the team's players should take a hard look at themselves following the sacking of head coach Giovanni Solinas and his assistant Patrick Mabedi.
Chiefs last week fired Solinas and Mabedi, and brought back German mentor Ernst Middendorp and Bafana Bafana legend Shaun Bartlett as their replacements.
Mabedi was a remnant of Steve Komphela's three-year trophyless era at Naturena, while Solinas was shown the door after only 14 games with the club in seventh place on the Absa Premiership table.
"It is not shocking news, as the chairman Mr Kaizer Motaung senior did explain about Solinas not being the first choice for Amakhosi," Maponyane said.
"As for Mabedi it was really surprising for me. I was hoping to see him staying at the first team."
The 56-year-old added: "I feel like the players should look at themselves. Steve resigned as it was reported because of poor results, same thing with Solinas even though 85% of the players were part of Komphela's stint.
"That must tell us [something] about our players."
Middendorp and Bartlett will start their reign together against SuperSport United at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Wednesday (19h30).
Chiefs will be without injured defenders Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Erick Mathoho, who are only expected back in the new year.
