Middendorp has joined to replace Solinas and an assistant will soon be announced by the club. Shaun Bartlett, currently the senior national team assistant coach, could be considered for the role.

Motaung says they did not want to impose someone on Middendorp; so they are working hand-in-hand with the German to find the right man for the job.

“We felt that we should not impose a person to the coach. We’ve discussed the list of candidates and soon we will announce the candidate that is preferred for both the club and the coach. We are doing it together with the coach because the coach has to have comfort with the personnel working with him. We will make an announcement soon,” Motaung said during Middendorp’s unveiling at Naturena on Monday morning.

He added: “We don’t have time, we have games back-to-back and he also needs someone who can hit the ground running with him.”

Chiefs are back in action on Wednesday when they take on SuperSport United at Mbombela Stadium (19h30).
