Stars change tack after Middendorp miss

After losing out on Ernst Midderndorp, Free State Stars are now trying to lure former Township Rollers coach Nikola Kavazovic to Bethlehem.

Stars wanted to recruit Middendorp as a replacement for Luc Eymael, but Kaizer Chiefs swooped in to re-hire the German following the sacking of Giovanni Solinas last week.

According to sources at Ea Lla Koto, the club have held talks with Kavazovic with hopes of luring him to the Nedbank Cup champions.

"Middendorp was earmarked for the position as head coach for Free State Stars," says a source.

"However, he later received an offer from Kaizer Chiefs. He decided to turn down the offer from Free State Stars and opted for the most prestigious position at Kaizer Chiefs."

Stars appointed assistant coaches David Vilakazi and Selaotse Mosala as interim bosses of the team following Eymael's departure around a month ago.

Ea Lla Koto, in 11th place on the table with 13 points from 14 games, next host log leaders Orlando Pirates at Goble Park on Tuesday (19h30).
