England comfortably sailed past the United States 3-0 in an international friendly at Wembley Stadium on Thursday evening.
England welcomed back Wayne Rooney for the final time in his illustrious career. And with a strong start, Callum Wilson was not able to give them an early lead, wasting a golden chance instead.
Veteran Brad Guzan then stopped Jesse Lingard’s powerful strike metres from goal with a smart but strong denial on 13 minutes.
On 25 minutes, the US received their first good chance after Christian Pulisic made contact with a long ball in a good advancing position, but Jordan Pickford’s abilities led to a smart save.
A minute later, England went in front after Lingard drifted into the box, created space to curl well beyond Guzan for a wonder strike.
Inside two minutes, the Three Lions increased their tally with another ferocious finish, this time by Trent Alexander-Arnold with a bottom corner conversion.
Five minutes to halftime, it appeared as if the third was coming but Wilson’s shot went straight to Guzan.
At the interval, Alex McCarthy replaced Pickford in goal for the World Cup semi-finalists with the visitors remaining unchanged from the opening 45.
A dangerous delivery inside the box of the USA connected with Wilson, but he couldn’t make contact, leaving Lingard who poked wide of the post instead.
There was to be a rousy reception for the final time in the short of his nation for a certain Wayne Rooney as he came on after 58 minutes.
The Americans picked out another half-opening as Bobby Wood connected with a wide delivery which he flicked to Pulisic, but he was unable to get it in its proper direction.
After his hard-running and constant menacing aptitudes, Wilson was finally rewarded with a debut goal after turning home Fabian Delph’s cross to an empty net to round off the victory.
