Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is confident rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will progress to the group stages of their respective continental club competitions.
Pirates will join 2016 African champions Sundowns in the CAF Champions League, while Chiefs will represent South Africa in the Confederation Cup alongside Free State Stars.
Sundowns have reached the group stages on the last three occasions and are confident of making it again, but are hoping their fellow members of the 'Big Three' will also put their names in the hat for the group stage draws.
Mosimane feels Bidvest Wits will benefit if the Big Three clubs progress to the group stages because Gavin Hunt’s men are not involved in action on the continent this season.
“I think Pirates will be in the group stages; the quality is good. I think Free State Stars has the quality to get to the group stages of the Confederation Cup, same as Kaizer Chiefs,” Mosimane said.
“So when we have those six games more in the group, and the four games that take you into the group, that’s 10 games hey. There’s niggling injuries, fatigue, transit at the airport. That’s about 30 percent of the league. It will give Wits the league because it’s not good for Sundowns, Pirates, Chiefs and Free State Stars. In January they will be the team to match.”
