KickOff.com has learnt that Free State Stars are trying to lure former Maritzburg United and Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp back to Bethlehem.

Ea Lla Koto are currently without a head coach after Luc Eymael resigned from the team this week. The Belgian has since been linked with a move to Black Leopards and unnamed sides in Durban and Egypt respectively.

According to sources close to Stars, the club have spoken to Middendorp regarding their vacant coaching position and a deal could be concluded before the weekend.

"The club received a number of applications, both locally and overseas," says a source.

"The club has targeted Ernst Middendorp."

Middendorp had a four-month stint in charge of Stars from September to December 2015, registering four wins, three draws and one loss in the league.

The ex-Golden Arrows, Bloemfontein Celtic and Chippa United mentor is currently the technical director at Bangkok City FC in Thailand, but regularly visits South Africa.

Middendorp ended his last stint in the PSL in November 2016 with Maritzburg when he resigned after clashing with PSL officials such as acting CEO Mato Madlala and becoming disillusioned with the standard of refereeing.

It was his third spell with the Team of Choice.
