Maritzburg United have confirmed that teenager Constandino Christodoulou has jetted out to England for a two-week trial with Manchester City.

Christodoulou is a 16-year-old goalkeeper, who turns out for the Team of Choice's Multichoice Diski Challenge side as well as the South Africa U-17 national team.

Still doing his schooling at Hilton College in Pietermaritzburg, 'Costi', as he is affectionately known, has been a part of the club's youth setup for the past two years.

According to Maritzburg's general manager Quinton Jettoo, the young talent has been eyed by the Premier League giants for a long time.

“There was always the request from Man City. I think they watched Costi in one of the SA U-17 games, hence the interest in having him on trial and having an assessment, and taking it from there,” Jettoo explained on his club's website.

Christodoulou departed for his assessment at the English champions last week and enjoyed the scenes of the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Jettoo has since wished the teen well for his stint, calling on him to do the club and country proud.

“All of us at Maritzburg United are very proud of Costi and we wish him all the best over in England.

"We are confident he’ll grab this opportunity with both hands and do himself, the club and the country proud," he concluded.
