Bloemfontein Celtic coach Steve Komphela is targeting 60 points for his side this season.
Komphela has enjoyed a great start to life at Celtic, who are in third place on the table following their 2-1 victory at Q-1 winners Bidvest Wits, arguably their biggest win of the season so far.
Since taking over, Komphela has turned Celtic into a side capable of playing good football while making sure they are resolute in defence.
They are on 20 points after 10 matches and if they carry on the way they’ve started, Komphela believes they can reach their target of 60 points.
On some occasions, 60 points has been enough to win the league.
“We are trying to accumulate the matches. We just have matches, we don’t have the points,” Komphela said.
“They [Wits] are sitting on 10 [games], we are sitting on nine. They have 20 points and we are on 17. We need to make 10 matches 20 points and hold them because if they win it means they are opening the gap. You don’t want them to leave you behind.
“So add the match, you have taken the matches now from the bush and you put them on the table but convert those into points. So this was crucial for us.
“Twenty multiply by 30 gives you 60. There is nothing wrong with that, it is not a sin go for it.”
The former Kaizer Chiefs coach added that the most important thing for him is to honour the Celtic supporters, who sang for him after the victory.
“Just honour these people there [the supporters], that’s all we want to see. They are calling our names and we have to honour them.”
