Highlands seriously considering Makudubela

Highlands Park are seriously considering signing former Platinum Stars and Orlando Pirates winger Mahlatse Makudubela, according to coach Owen da Gama.

Makudubela has been training with the Lions of the North for more than a week now and scored in a friendly match against National First Division outfit Witbank Spurs over the weekend.

Da Gama has been impressed with the speedy forward and says a decision on whether or not they sign him will be made early next week, after the club's Telkom Knockout clash against Maritzburg United.

"He has been around for a while. Obviously Pirates saw a lot in him to be able to purchase him. He gained a lot of experience there and then 'Dance' (Dan Malesela) took him to Chippa. And then when Dance left he did not have much game-time," Da Gama tells KickOff.com.

"But I think he has the experience. If you look at our wingers, the only winger with real experience is Lindokuhle Mbatha. The other guys are still inexperienced, so I think he is a player we are looking at very seriously.

"We are just concentrating on the match for Saturday and then on Monday or Tuesday, we will sit down with management and we will have an idea of what we can or cannot do."

Makudubela, now 28, has shown lots of promise throughout his career, but has never really reached his full potential. Should he sign for Highlands, the Mamelodi Sundowns product will have an opportunity to fully showcase his talent.
