Mothiba not resting on his laurels

Bafana Bafana forward Lebo Mothiba has welcomed his healthy international record thus far but is mindful of the dangers of growing complacent.

Mothiba's goal in Bafana's 6-0 drubbing of Seychelles at the FNB Stadium on Saturday was his third in three senior international appearances since his debut in March.

The 22-year-old netted twice on the Four Nations tour to Zambia, and has continued his fine form witnessed for French Ligue 1 club Strasbourg with the national team.

He has expressed delight at having built up a healthy goal return thus far and says he is learning a lot, having only recently broken into the setup.

"I'm very happy to have scored three goals in three games for Bafana, and so far I'm enjoying myself and having a great time with players and coaches," said Mothiba.

"I'm learning new stuff with some of the players I've never played with before, and so I'm having a nice time and learning a lot also from the technical team."

Mothiba seems to have already struck a blossoming partnership with Belgium-based compatriot Percy Tau, whom he set up for Bafana's fourth goal at FNB Stadium over the weekend.

"We're working and talking a lot at training and learning what the coaches want us to do and how we must play, so we're doing that and it's going well so far," he explained.

"I think now we should work more on our finishing, if we fix that and be a little bit more clinical in front of goal it will go well for us."

On Tuesday return leg fixture on the Mahe Island, the Johannesburg-born striker has already put the joy of their previous result in hindsight and is fully focussed on having to put in a similar performance in order to get another positive result.

"We'll go there and do our best, play like we did [on Saturday] and concentrate on the game, because I think we're playing on the artificial turf.

"So, they are used to that surface and we must just go there, give everything and make it difficult for them," he emphasised.

Kick-off of tomorrow afternoon's clash at the Stade Linde is scheduled for 17h30 (15h30 SA time), with the match set to be broadcast on SuperSport and SABC.
