Seychelles gunning for Bafana upset

Seychelles national team coach Gavin Jeanne says they will play to win against Bafana Bafana as they look to “close the gap” on their AFCON qualifying Group E rivals.
Currently rooted to the bottom of the group standings, Seychelles are expected to cause little trouble for a Bafana side looking to secure their passage to the 2019 showpiece in Cameroon.
Admitting he is fully aware of the hosts’ expectations in this afternoon’s clash at the FNB Stadium, Jeanne says they will be looking to collect their first points in order to gain ground on their rivals, while the experience will also be fun at the 2010 World Cup venue.
“Every game we play is to win, no matter which kind of strategy or system you put in place, it’s all about winning,” said Jeanne ahead of the match.
“We know South Africa are saying winning this game will get them into qualifying for AFCON in Cameroon, but for us winning might revitalise our chance to go up in the group – maybe we can close the gap a little bit.
“But, it’s not our main objective. When we started, it’s not like we were thinking about qualifying for Cameroon, our aim was to expose our players as much as possible.
“We are in a very tough group. To have Nigeria, South Africa and Libya in the group, I think, is a very tough group for Seychelles but it’s fun for us also.
“It’s a good opportunity for players to play, for example, against Nigeria in Seychelles – this was very good for us to play against the likes of [Odion] Ighalo and [Ahmed] Musa.
“Today we are in South Africa, playing in the World Cup stadium, so for us it’s something special. But still it’s not only about that but also getting a result in every game we play.”
Kick-off is scheduled for 15h00.
