Baxter: They’ll play 4-5-1 or 5-4-1

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has sussed out Seychelles’ likely formation ahead of today’s crunch 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash.

Bafana will host The Pirates at the FNB Stadium at 15h00, with South Africans expecting nothing less than a convincing victory and the all-important three points.

On his approach to the encounter, Baxter has outlined the lessons learnt from last month’s goalless stalemate against Libya and emphasised the need to breach their opponent’s reinforced defensive line, which he expects will come in one of two formations.

“From the Libya game, we took out that we didn’t get enough players in the box. We didn’t play quickly enough, we didn’t do some of the things that we had planned pre-match in terms of the movement, so we weren’t happy with that and we’ll try and correct it,” he stressed.

“I think, if we can do that then we will cause them a lot of problems. They will either play 4-5-1 or 5-4-1, but there will be nine players between us and the goals for the majority of the time.

“So, we’ve got to pick our way through and you don’t do that playing very slowly. So, I’m hoping the intensity we’ve shown in training will translate into the game.”
