Baxter reveals message to Bafana players

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has revealed what he has been drilling into his charges’ heads since they assembled for camp at the start of the week.
Bafana are set to face a lowly 189th-ranked Seychelles in a crucial round-three 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Group E qualifier at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
With four points from their two games so far, South Africa are in a position to accumulate 10 points that would place them in a commanding position ahead of a tough tie against Nigeria next month.
However, with the so-called ‘smaller’ teams having often dealt the national team the biggest setbacks in major tournament qualifiers, Baxter has a healthy respect for The Pirates.
Baxter said: “When I was doing the presentation last night, I said to the players, ‘Look what it says in the middle – it says AFCON qualifier, and that’s the second biggest tournament you can play in. And, if that’s not enough for you, when you started playing football as a kid and you wanted to play in major tournaments, have you come this far so that you can just take it with a pinch of salt, or do you want to represent you, your country and your team in the right way?’
“So, that’s been the message all week. What do we do? Value what we do, try and do it with excellence, go for the best you can be and don’t settle for anything less.”
