Baroka FC announced the signing of Thabiso Semenya on Wednesday afternoon, but the former Polokwane City defender has revealed that he in fact joined the club last month.
Semenya waited for the club to confirm the news on their social media pages before talking about the move to Bakgaga. The 36-year-old, who has been without a club since leaving Rise and Shine at the end of June, has signed a one-year deal with the Limpopo outfit with an option for another year.
He says he is grateful for the belief Baroka have shown in him and wants to repay them with good performances on the pitch. He may be 36, but Semenya has shown previously that age is nothing but a number.
After leaving Rise and Shine, Semenya went on trial with Black Leopards and Highlands Park, but was not offered concrete deals by the clubs.
He has been training with Baroka for about three weeks now after signing with them.
"They [Baroka] called me and said I should come to their office. We spoke and we agreed on everything. My main aim was just to play football, it's not about money or anything like that," Semenya tells KickOff.com.
"These are people who were willing to give me a chance to play again. They were the first to come forward while others came after, but I was like 'they are the ones who came before everyone, so it means they believe in me'. I was happy with the terms of the contract, but more importantly I am happy that I get to play in the PSL again."
He adds: "I can't question [why it took long for Baroka to announce the signing]. I did not want to unveil myself before they did. Maybe because of the fixture congestion that's why they announced the signing today [Wednesday]."
Another player Baroka unveiled is former Zambian international Davies Nkausu.
