Solinas eyes Derby return for Castro

Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas has provided an update on the progress of injured striker Leonardo Castro and hopes to have him ready for the Soweto Derby.

Castro has missed Amakhosi’s last three Absa Premiership games after picking up an ankle injury in their 4-1 drubbing of Cape Town City last month.

The likes of Bernard Parker and Gustavo Paez have since filled in for the former Mamelodi Sundowns talisman and have managed an assist and a goal respectively.

However, the Colombian hitman, who has tallied three goals and two assists in his nine appearances so far this season, was sorely missed as his side were held to a goalless stalemate by Highlands Park on Tuesday evening, with Parker or Paez unable to fill his boots.

Currently undergoing rehab at Naturena, Solinas is optimistic about the 29-year-old’s progress and is banking on having him fully fit and available by the time they face Orlando Pirates in the first Soweto Derby of the season on October 27.

“Castro is continuing with his rehabilitation, but he’s feeling much better,” said Solinas.

“I don’t know exactly how much time before he can come back. We hope we can get him recovered for the Derby against Pirates at the end of October.

“The rehabilitation is okay, every day he gets much better. So, we hope to have him back by the Derby, but the players who have played up front [in his absence] have played well.

“So, congratulations must also go to the players that have substituted for Castro, I am happy.”

Chiefs are next up against Polokwane City at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium, where supporters have been banned from entering by the PSL Disciplinary Committee.
