Cameroon will prep Banyana for Afcon

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis says their 2018 Cosafa Women’s Championship final against Cameroon will prepare them for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

The Afcon is set to be played in Ghana from November 17 to December 1. The top three teams at the competition will qualify for the 2019 Fifa World Cup in France, so Banyana have to be prepared to put up solid performances.

The Cosafa Championship final against Cameroon at Wolfson Stadium on Saturday (12h00) will certainly prepare them for Afcon.

Banyana beat Uganda 2-0 to book themselves a spot in the final, while Cameroon edged Uganda 1-0.

“They [Cameroon] are a different type of team. They are strong, very physical, so we are going to have to move the ball around and try to pull them away in areas we want to attack,” Ellis said.

“And I think it will prepare us for Afcon, where we are going to come up against Nigeria who are also very physical. We are going to come up against Equatorial Guinea who are also very physical. So it sort of prepares you. Every game you play prepares you for the next game.  So we need to be on top of our game and concentrate on what we do well. If we do that, then I think we will get the result that we want.”
