Mlambo: Ben is one quality player

Orlando Pirates' Xola Mlambo is delighted that he gets to play with his former Bidvest Wits teammate Ben Motshwari in the heart of the Soweto giants’ midfield.

Though they did not play too many matches together in the Clever Boys’ engine room, Mlambo and Motshwari have an understanding and it’s evident in the way they are currently bossing midfield battles in the famous black and white jersey of the Buccaneers.

Pirates, at the moment, have one of the strongest midfields and they will no doubt be hoping the Mlambo and Motshwari partnership will get stronger.

Mlambo has by far been Pirates’ best player in the first few weeks of the season, while Motshwari has made the most of the opportunities he has been handed by coach Micho Sredojevic.

“At Bidvest Wits we hardly played together, it was here and there. But Ben is one quality player that works hard, he grinds. If you want him to go forward he does, if you want him to cover distances he does. He is capable of doing most things that midfielders do – he can attack, defend, he can play,” Mlambo tells KickOff.com.

“It’s interesting to have a player like that. You learn a lot from him as well, but to be honest we just have to take the Bidvest Wits thing out of us because the philosophy is different – Pirates and Wits are two different teams.”

They could be in central midfield again this evening when Pirates host Cape Town City in an Absa Premiership match at Orlando Stadium (19h30).
