Chiefs sink Stars at Goble Park

Kaizer Chiefs made it back-to-back wins after defeating Free State Stars 2-0 in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday.

It was Chiefs finding the early pressure, as the pace down the wing by Yusuf Jappie caused them all sorts of problems, not to mention leading them into errors.

Striker Judas Moseamedi found himself in a sandwich with Chiefs two defenders and a goalkeeper and was unable to get a head on goal after eight minutes.

There happened to be a few instances and on 11 minutes a cross from out left nearly landed on the head of Gustavo Paez, but the quick reflexes of Badra Ali Sangare made sure it’s not taking place.

After a slow quarter with no chances created, the Amakhosi went ahead on 25 minutes when Paez connected with a through ball from Khama Billiat to beat an on-rushing Sangare.

As Stars plotted a way back, Chiefs struck again this time through a cracking finish from Philani Zulu following an assist from Hendrick Pule Ekstein on 34 minutes.

The Glamour Boys took a healthy halftime lead, on course to maintain their resurgence under Giovanni Solinas.

In the second half, the Amakhosi were under little pressure from the visitors and just kept their shape in all departments.

A snapshot on the edge of the box fell down for Billiat on 62 minutes but he failed to beat Sangare, before Stars' Goodman Dlamini kept good control before fashioning into the side-netting later on.

The Amakhosi made their first change, with Ryan Moon replacing the man who opened the scoring, Paez, on 71 minutes.

Within a minute, veteran Paulus Masehe saw his shot from range flying inches over the bar as it missed the top corner.

A through pass from Ekstein set-up Moon to open his account this season, but his effort was saved from close range.

In the last segment, Eleazar Rodgers missed arguably the best chance for the hosts to get on the scoreboard with a wayward header as Chiefs secured their successive league triumph.
