West Ham United finally secured their first Premier League win of the season after defeating Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park.
Ukrainian Andriy Yarmolenko grabbed the lead for the Hammers in the 11th minute after the hosts were cut open at the back with Marko Arnautovic playing a square pass for the former to finish into a gaping net, 0-1.
Cenk Tosun had the first opportunity to level matters for the Toffees in 24th minute with a free header at the back post but his effort lacked power as West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski gathered easily.
Yarmolenko completed his brace for Manuel Pellegrini’s men on the half-hour mark with a beautiful left-footed curling strike after cutting inside from the right side of the box, 0-2.
Theo Walcott almost sensationally pulled a goal back for Marco Silva’s charges ten minutes before halftime with a volley from outside the box but Fabianski tipped his brilliant effort over the bar.
Gylfi Sigurdsson got a goal back for the hosts deep in first half stoppage time with a thumping header inside the box following a cross, 1-2.
After a quiet opening to the second half, Arnautovic restored a two=goal cushion for the Hammers on the hour-mark making it 1-3 with a sweeping finish inside the box.
Pellegrini’s men were not as adventurous as before with 20 minutes remaining opting to stay compact at the back and look for chances on the break.
Oumar Niasse should have pulled a goal back for the Toffees six minutes before time with a chance inside the six yard box, but his half volley came off the underside of the crossbar.
Silva’s men kept going forward looking to salvage some pride towards the end as the visitors were already out of sight but they were not sharp enough as the score remained 3-1.
