Enrique on Messi FIFA award snub

Spain head coach Luis Enrique has weighed on FC Barcelona captain Lionel Messi's World Player of the Year snub.

Enrique will take charge of his second game as Spain head coach since their below-par 2018 FIFA World Cup.

After beating England 2-1 in his first game, there next challenge comes in the form of finalists Croatia.

Ahead of the fixture, he was asked as a former coach of Lionel Messi, about the surprise snub in favour of Mohamed Salah, Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"When speaking of Croatia, I would talk about [Luka] Modric and [Ivan] Rakitic, the two deserve all the individual awards," he said in the press conference ahead of the UEFA Nations League outing.

"The award for the best player in the world I would give it to Messi, he is a step above everyone else."
