Kaizer Chiefs reserve team coach Arthur Zwane has welcomed his side’s positive start to the MultiChoice Diski Challenge season.
While PSL action took a back seat to the international break, the reserve league kicked off the new campaign with a festival at Hammarsdale on the weekend.
Amakhosi’s return saw them come up against two-time defending champions Golden Arrows on Sunday, as they came out 1-0 victors thanks to a goal from Reamohetswe Lekoatsa.
Zwane was delighted with their positive start to the league campaign, and attributed this to the continuity of personnel within his side.
“We started very well with a win. This could be attributed to starting the season with the core of the team from the last season,” Zwane told his club’s website.
“We have a handful of the players that left the team. [Siphosakhe] Ntiya-Ntiya is in the first team and [Yusuf] Bunting is on loan at Highlands Park, while [Tristan] Moses is now at Mamelodi Sundowns. The focus is on developing the players of the future.”
‘10111’, as Zwane is fondly known since his playing days, reserved praise for his opponents, and gave credit to his charges for their defensive discipline.
“Arrows are a tough nut to crack. They are not champs by fluke. They gave us a good game to measure our character going forward,” he added.
“It was tougher due to the pitch conditions. The pitch was spongy due to rain and the other two prior matches. But, I am happy the lads responded well and showed hunger. We scored a goal and kept a clean sheet. That’s a good way to start the season.”
