Leopards' next game at Thohoyandou

Black Leopards have confirmed that their next game against Bloemfontein Celtic on September 16 will be played at their 'slaughterhouse' Thohoyandou Stadium in Limpopo.

Leopards had to upgrade the venue they used when campaigning in the National First Division prior to gaining PSL approval for Absa Premiership matches to take place there.

In the interim they entertained teams at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

"Yes, now we will play our games in Thohoyandou," club spokesperson Berry Ramunenyiwa told KickOff.com.

"Ja, it's confirmed our game against Celtic is going to be played there. This has made our fans very happy. They've always wanted us to play there and they thought somehow that the team will be moved to another stadium. We are also happy and excited at the same time because it's where we are able to perform well, in front of the supporters that have been supporting Black Leopards all these five years we were not in the premier league. This is our home and we are happy that we are going to play at home forever.

"We've managed to build a very big fan base in South Africa, and Thohoyandou Stadium is where we have fans. Look at all the stadiums where we played, the local teams don't make those numbers that we attract. In Thohoyandou Stadium we've got more fans than any other teams in Limpopo, so we had to make it our home base.

"Peter Mokaba is also listed as one of our home grounds, but our first choice stadium will remain Thohoyandou Stadium. We had to wait until it's available and we are going back there. We have always played there and we have made it our home ground. We don't want to move away from it. For us it's best to play in Thohoyandou. Our players prefer the stadium and everyone feels that's where we have to be you know."

Ramunenyiwa added that Thohoyandou Stadium is now able to safely accommodate fans when PSL giants such as Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs roll into town.

"They are playing sometimes in stadiums that are not even near the standard of Thohoyandou ... Thohoyandou Stadium has been upgraded to be a very good one. It has been upgraded to a level where it can host any game now. Even in the past I mean we used to host them there, so there is no issue anymore regarding the stadium.

"So any other team, Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and anybody ... we want our supporters to enjoy watching us beat them in Thohoyandou because our 12th man will be there."

PSL COO Ronnie Schloss also confirmed the news.

"Yes, the [Celtic] game will be there ja."
