The extent of Bongani Zungu's injury has been confirmed, with his French club now also looking to reward the Bafana Bafana midfielder.

Zungu suffered a knee injury in Amiens' goalless Ligue 1 draw with Saint-Etienne over the weekend, and has since been withdrawn from the Bafana squad to face Libya on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was stretchered off after 59 minutes after apparently twisting his knee.

"Amiens SC wishes to express its full support to Bongani Zungu, victim this Sunday against Saint-Etienne of a serious sprained knee with involvement of the anterior cruciate ligament. He will be unavailable for several months," read a statement from the club.

Furthermore, Amiens have since expressed their support for the former Mamelodi Sundowns star, and disclosed that contract renewal talks will commence during his recovery.

"The club wishes to express its confidence to Bongani, and is currently negotiating an extension of contract with him. We wish for him to come back as soon as possible and even stronger," they added.

Zungu joined the Ligue 1 outfit from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes at the start of last season, penning a four-year deal.

Pending an agreement, Zungu could see his stay in northern France stretch beyond June 2021, which is the current expiry date of his contract.
