Chippa United winger Daine Klate says the experienced campaigners at the club have a big role to play this season, as the team looks to finish comfortably on the Absa Premiership standings.
Chippa, who recently parted ways with coach Dan Malesela and replaced him with Eric Tinkler, have made a slow start to the season and this is the time experienced players come to the party, so that their teammates do not worry too much about the situation and focus on getting the results on the pitch.
The likes of Thabo Nthethe, Mark Mayambela, Jabu Shongwe, Daniel Akpeyi, Andile Mbenyane and Klate have a big role to play, especially with the possibility of the club changing coaches many times this season.
“A guy like Kurt Lentjies comes to mind. There’s Jabu Shongwe and a guy like Daniel Akpeyi has been to the World Cup and has a lot of experience as well,” the former Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates star says.
“We are here to help and having those players around is good for the team, you know. Maybe when the going gets tough those players get to raise their hands and help the club get out of situations and become better.”
