Larsen praises Arrows spirit

Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen lauded his young side’s fighting spirit, and says he was pleased to leave the Mother City with a point following Saturday’s draw with Cape Town City.

The KwaZulu-Natal club played out a goalless stalemate with the Citizens in their Absa Premiership clash on Saturday evening, in a game riddled with missed chances as neither team was able to breakdown the opposition’s defence, yet Larsen was happy to leave Cape Town Stadium with a point.

“I think it was a game of missed opportunities – they had a few, albeit most of them being from the edge of the box,” Larsen said after the game. “We had some massive chances ourselves, hitting the crossbar, and a number of other chances spurned. I think you guys are tired of us talking about poor decision making, but today was a very good example of that from my team.

“But I am happy with the fighting spirit of the team, it’s not an easy place to come get a point. So we go home a happy team having fought very hard for a point.”

Larsen feels his side could have sneaked in all three points, but as he did earlier last week, lavished praise on their opponents who he feels will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

“It could have been more, based on the chances we had,” he said. “But looking at the positives, we got a clean sheet away from home against a quality City outfit. Like I told the journalists in Durban, I do believe this City team can go all the way and compete for silverware this year because they have depth and the right blend of players, a well-balanced team playing with confidence. And I think they signed very smartly in the window. I’ve been very impressed with what they’re building here, and I believe they will be formidable this season.”

With the MTN8 semi-finals scheduled for this weekend, Arrows are only in action again on Wednesday, 29 August against Limpopo outfit Polokwane City.
