'Ozil last won a tackle before 2014 WC'

In the wake of Mesut Ozil retiring from international football, a former FIFA World Cup winner has hit back, claiming he last won a tackle before Brazil 2014.

Ozil, 29, announced his decision to no longer represent Die Mannschaft this weekend after being ostracised by German media due to being photographed with the President of Turkey prior to Russia 2018.

The Arsenal playmaker was then made the scapegoat for Germany's disastrous tournament, which saw them finish last in Group F.

However, Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness claims his decision couldn't come any sooner.

"I'm glad it is over. He's been playing dirt for years," he told Sport Bild.

"He last won a tackle before the 2014 World Cup. And now he hides himself and his s*** performance behind this photo.

"His 35 million follower boys, who of course do not exist in the real world, think he has played excellently if he plays a cross to a man."

Hoeness also revealed that Bayern target Ozil - who has only been on the winning side twice in 17 matches against the German giants - whenever they play Arsenal.

"Whenever we played against Arsenal, we played over him, because we know he's the weak point."
