Former Bafana Bafana defender Bongani Khumalo is targeting a return to SuperSport United following his Bidvest Wits exit.

Khumalo left The Clever Boys following the expiry of his contract last month, and is currently in search of a new club.

The 31-year-old defender spent 18 months at Sturrock Park, winning a fourth Absa Premiership title as well as the Telkom Knockout under former coach Gavin Hunt.

Khumalo has since joined Matsatsantsa on their pre-season camp of Polokwane, hoping to prove himself once more in order to land a deal.

"Yes, it's true, he is training with SuperSport United," says Khumalo's agent Glyn Binkin.

"At the moment there is nothing to talk about."

Having made a name for himself with the club when they won three league titles in a row between 2007 and 2010, the former Bafana skipper is now looking to return for a third spell with the Tshwane outfit.

Following a five-year stay in England, where he was signed to Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur but spent most of his time on loan at several lower division clubs, the Swaziland-born centre-back spent six months at SuperSport before joining Wits.
