Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thabo Nthethe says winning the CAF Champions League will remain the biggest achievement in his successful career.
Nthethe, who has signed for Chippa United for the upcoming campaign, won the competition with the Brazilians in 2016, a historic feat for the club as they became only the second side in South Africa to win the tournament.
“For me, it’s the biggest. I never thought I would get the medal, but I am very grateful for the chance I got at Sundowns,” the 33-year-old tells KickOff.com.
What will Nthethe miss most about Sundowns? Well, there are quite a few things.
“The support of our president Mr [Patrice] Motsepe. I think Sundowns has achieved so much in the last five years because of his support. I was quite impressed with how coach [Pitso Mosimane] managed the team and the physical trainer Kabelo [Rangoaga] did a good job. They managed players well and we were always looking forward to games,” he says.
“We believed in ourselves and we had energy, so the team was managed well. Players were not thinking about themselves, but about the team. I will also miss the supporters.”
Nthethe will certainly add value to a Chippa side that recently re-appointed Dan Malesela as their coach.
