Bevan Fransman has reserved special praise for former Maritzburg United teammate Siyanda Xulu for the season he had with the Team of Choice.
Xulu, who is currently in camp with Bafana Bafana in Polokwane, joined Maritzburg after a disastrous two seasons with Kaizer Chiefs, but was able to turn his career around within a year.
Awarded with the Absa Premiership Defender of the Season prize, Xulu played 38 times in all competitions.
He will captain the side next season following Fransman’s departure to Highlands Park. The news of his captaincy for next season came just a few days after he was given the armband by Bafana coach Stuart Baxter for the COSAFA Cup.
“He had a fantastic season and the contribution he made was great. For me he is going to be involved with this award for some years to come, if he continues the way he is going. So I am very proud of him,” Fransman says.
“The Bafana Bafana captaincy speaks volumes. They don’t just hand that out to anybody. Stuart and the technical team in the national side see the quality that we see as well. It’s fantastic for his career and I think he is going to grow from strength to strength now.”
