Truter: Downs' quality was the difference

Cape Town All Stars coach Brandon Truter says Mamelodi Sundowns' superior quality was the difference on the night.

Igugu Lekapa created enough chances to win the game but were let down by poor finishing and got punished on the hour-mark by Percy Tau as Sundowns secured a spot in the Nedbank Cup last 16.

However, Truter says he’s happy his charges played their normal game and expressed themselves.

“A few of the players did put their hands up. All the boys did well but at the end of the day it’s all about structure and organisation. This is how we play. I give freedom to my players to express themselves,” Truter told SuperSport TV.

“The intensity was very high. Sundowns play at a high intensity it’s our game as well but at the end of the day they coped better with the conditions here, the rain coming down and the grass was a bit heavy I think up to the 80th minute our legs were gone. But we still managed to have a chance here and there. We still managed to have a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The difference between us and Sundowns was the quality. Percy [Tau] got a chance and he put it away.

“All the games were were playing good football. Sundowns was an opportunity for us to use this game as a measuring tool to see where we are. I think we coped well we went toe-to-toe with them. Coming up against them was a motivator you can’t ask for a team better than them. But well done to them and I hope they win it.”
