Wenger charged over ref bust-up

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been charged by the FA following his bust-up with referee Mike Dean following the 1-1 draw against West Brom last Sunday.

The Frenchman was furious with the match official’s decision to award the Baggies the last-gasp penalty which denied the Gunners three priceless points in the race for a top-four finish.

A statement from the FA read: ‘Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been charged following the West Bromwich Albion game on Sunday [31/12/17].

‘It is alleged his language and/or behaviour in the match officials’ changing room after the game was abusive and/or improper and/or questioned the integrity of the match referee.

‘He has until 6pm on Friday [05/01/18] to respond.’

It is the second such incident for Wenger in the past two seasons, having been handed a four-game touchline ban in 2016/17 for comments he made about fourth official Anthony Taylor, in which he claimed the referee was “dishonest to your federation”.
