Barcelona have confirmed they have agreed a long-term contract extension with midfielder Andres Iniesta.
The midfielder’s future at the Nou Camp has been in doubt over the last few months, especially following the exit of star forward Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain and Lionel Messi’s failure to pen new terms.
However, the Catalan giants have since managed to convince the Spain international to extend his stay, having penned a “renewal for life”, according to the club’s official website.
A statement from the club said: "Andres Iniesta signed a lifetime contract with FC Barcelona on Friday, in a deal that will keep him at the club for the rest of his career."
Iniesta has enjoyed mammoth success with Barcelona since making his first-team debut in 2002, having gone on to make 639 appearances and scored 55 goals.
The Spaniard’s trophy cabinet is one stocked to the rafters, with eight La Liga titles, five Copa Del Ray crowns and, most impressively, four UEFA Champions League winners’ medals.
"This agreement is a renewal but also a show of trust. It makes me very happy that my club has given me this chance,” said Iniesta.
