Monare: Wits just need a few goals

Bidvest Wits midfielder Thabang Monare believes a few goals is all it will take to turn their fortunes around.
The reigning Absa Premiership champions have now gone five games without a win, and were recently eliminated from the semi-finals of the MTN8 following back-to-back defeats to Cape Town City.
The industrious centre-mid, who sat out their last game with a hamstring injury, believes the team is not playing bad football but merely struggling to find the back of the net.
“To be honest, I don’t think we’re playing too badly. We’re creating chances, it’s just a matter of scoring,” Monare explains to KickOff.com.
“If we can just start converting the many chances we’re creating then things will change, because at the end of the day it’s goals that win you games.”
With pressure mounting on The Clever Boys to show their grit in trying to defend their maiden championship in their 96-year history, Monare feels a goal from midfield would ease the weight on their strikers' shoulders.
“I think a win is all it takes [to turn the corner], and if one of us [midfielders] can just get a goal it would relieve the pressure on the strikers,” he adds.
“Most of all it’s about the team. If the team wins then going forward we will have that confidence to start winning games.”
Wits will be in action at the Bidvest Stadium this evening, when they host a Golden Arrows side that they beat in dramatic fashion in their MTN8 opener at the same venue a month ago.
