Maritzburg United bagged a crucial away goal after a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their MTN8 semi-final against SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Thuso Phala opened the scoring for the hosts early in the second stanza before Lebogang Maboe cancelled out the advantage with time running out.
SuperSport had the edge in the early exchanges but the chances created were of little consequence, as Dove Wome's shot went high and at the other end Bandile Shandu saw his effort deflected away.
Midway through the first stanza Fortune Makaringe created some space on the edge of the area but his shot skewed off his boot.
Morgan Gould sent a wonderful chance inches over the crossbar via his shoulder after Phala lifted in a free-kick.
Maritzburg themselves had a chance not long afterwards as Maboe drove up field and unleashed a fierce drive that flew over Ronwen Williams' goal.
A lovely flowing counter attacking move from the home side resulted in Phala picking out Bradley Grobler with a cross but his header was well saved by Bongani Mpandle.
Siphesihle Ndlovu tested Williams for the first time as he clipped a ball towards goal and the keeper was forced to tip over.
Inside the openening 10 minutes of the second stanza the hosts had their lead as a delightful ball from Wome freed Phala and he slammed the ball into the top corner.
Moments later Reneilwe Letsholonyane almost added a second as he picked up a clearance and lashed a shot inches over the crossbar.
A swift counter attack was finished off by Wome who expertly turned and finished only to look over at the linesman to see a flag raised.
Ndlovu found himself in space just before the 70-minute mark and his near post shot was palmed away by Williams.
The woodowork came to the aid of SuperSport minutes later as a searing Deolin Mekoa free-kick struck the crossbar.
Parity was restored late into proceedings as Maboe profited from some neat play in the box to calmly tuck away.
SuperSport travel to the Harry Gwala Stadium on 9 September for the second-leg tie.
