Manyisa: We must fix our mistakes

Orlando Pirates captain Oupa Manyisa is adamant that they need to fix the mistakes that led to losing their proud standing as the only club not to have finished outside the top eight in the PSL era.

Proof of Manyisa’s sentiments will be seen in the Nedbank Cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night (20h15).

The Ghost will not want to see the mess that had occured throughout their 2016/17 Absa Premiership season, when they take on familiar cup foes SuperSport United.

“We have to rectify our mistakes and we now know what went wrong during the season,” declared Manyisa. “It is about us now and what we want to do.

"It was sad for us to finish outside the top-eight, but we have to accept it because it is part of football. We have to rectify our mistakes and come back stronger.

"Since we are playing in the Nedbank Cup final we still have a chance of going back to play in the CAF Confederation Cup next year. This weekend we will fight for the team and one another."

That they last played a competitive match more than four weeks ago, while their opponents have played two CAF Confederations Cup group matches during the same period, is of no concern to Manyisa.

"As a team we have been preparing very well because we know that our last game was against Golden Arrows, but we have been playing some friendly games and also playing against each other during training sessions," he defended.

"We have been feeling great because we know what we want and we know what we are up against. I don’t think that not playing for a month will affect us because we are professional players.

"On Saturday it is all a new ball game. It won’t be about them playing in CAF and us not playing. What I know is that the mood is positive because we all know what we want to achieve come this weekend.”
