SuperSport United striker Jeremy Brockie believes his team have the experience and character to overcome TP Mazembe in their CAF Confederation Cup game on Sunday.
United picked up three valuable points last time out on the continent as they beat Mounana 5-3 in Gabon to top Group D ahead of their upcoming DR Congo opponents on goal difference, with both teams on four points after two matches.
Travelling to Lubumbashi has always been a daunting experience for South African teams in the past and Brockie says Matsatsantsa are aware of the challenges ahead of them this weekend.
“It’s a big game for the club. We started off the group very well. We’re on top of the group,” said Brockie.
“We’re travelling to Congo against a big team with a lot of history. We’re going there aware of the intimidating crowd, the weather factor and it’s going to be on an artificial turf.
”There is a lot of things against us but we have enough experience and leadership in our team to overcome these challenges. I think we can come back with a point and this will put us in a good position to progress in the group,” he added.
The New Zealand international watched TP Mazembe when they played against Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Super Cup at Loftus Versfeld earlier this year and picked up what he feels is invaluable information about the opposition.
“They are big, physically. They gave Sundowns a good run for their money when Sundowns were on top of their game. Definitely, it is not going to be an easy game,” concluded Brockie.
