Tefu Mashamaite played alongside New York City’s new signings Andoni Iraola and Angelino as they beat Clarkstown SC Eagles 4-0 in a friendly match on Thursday.

Star striker David Villa, Patrick Mullins and Adam Namec were all on target, with the latter completing a brace against the United States fourth-tier side.

Mashamaite enjoyed the full 90 minutes in central defence, reports @NYCFCWatch, with ex-Athletic Bilbao right-back Iraola and Manchester City’s loan left-back Angelino each playing 45 minutes.

Lampard did not feature at all but is set to make his New York debut this Sunday against Toronto. Fellow superstar signing Andrea Pirlo’s debut is expected to be July 26.

The MLS mid-season transfer window runs from July 8 to August 6, with some roster reshuffling expected ahead of New York’s push towards a play-off spot. They are currently three points outside the Eastern Conference play-off zone after 18 matches of the 34-game season.

Mashamaite is expected to be offered a contract at the club following the end of his 10-day trial on Friday night as they are looking to strengthen their defence.

KickOff.com put a call through to the player’s agent Jazzman Mahlakgane earlier today, but he said he would be avoiding the media until Monday when he “should have something concrete”.
