Bafana Bafana kicked off their 2017 African Nations Cup qualifying campaign with a 0-0 home draw against Gambia at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

FT: South Africa 0-0 Gambia. Possession dominated and chances missed as a familiar feeling creeps back in.

90+2' - Last chance for Bafana as Patosi picks up the ball from Mataba on the left edge of the box, sets his sights, but his curling effort goes narrowly wide of the far post.

88' - CHANCE! Ntshangase drives brilliantly at the Gambia defence on the counter-attack, plays a one-two with Mahlangu and finds himself one-v-one with Jobe, but he places his shot with the instep just wide of the right-hand upright. So close...

84' - The boys fighting hard right until the end here as Gambia park the bus and commit cynical fouls. Cannot fault the effort of the players, but will we see that little spark of quality to win the game?

81' - CHANCE! Patosi shows good awareness to turn and shoot but his shot deflects off a defender and over the bar. Then Khune is called into some rare action as he comes off his line to gather smartly.

79' - GAMBIA SUB: Nyassi (OFF) makes way for Barry (ON). Bafana going all out for a goal now as Ngcongca's shot from the edge of the area fails to trouble Jobe.

77' - CHANCE! Matlaba blazes wildly over the bar when in a great position to score following good work on the edge of the box from Masango and Ntshangase.

75' - MISS! The ball falls to Matlaba in space at the far post, he shoots hard with his left foot, the keeper parries it to Phala, who sidefoots straight at Jobe with the whole goal to aim at!

73' - Gambia outmuscling the South African players regularly in this game and also containing the short passes, but not offering much going forward anymore. Bafana still pushing for an equaliser after a slight lull in proceedings.

70' - BAFANA SUB: Phala (ON) for Gabuza (OFF).

65' - BAFANA SUB: Ntshangase (ON) for Serero (OFF). Gabuza booked for a trip.

64' - GAMBIA SUB: Mansally (ON) for Savage (OFF). Serero tries a few one-twos on the edge of the box again but cannot drive through the Gambia defence, which has been resolute.

61' - Serero plays a quick one-two with Gabuza and drives into the box but is tackled before he can get a sight of goal. Bafana bossing play but crosses and final passes have been below par so far, particularly from Patosi, who is having a decent game despite some disappointing deliveries.

57' - Beach soccer stuff from Bafana outside the box involving Patosi, Serero, Mahlangu and Masango before Gabuza's snap-shot goes over the bar. Still no penetration despite the home side's intricate passing.

53' - GAMBIA SUB: Ceesay (ON) replaces Koli (OFF). Bafana still on top possession-wise but have not yet opened up the Gambia defence, mostly playing small touches outside the box.

50' - Good work from Mahlangu through the middle as he finds Patosi wide on the left, but the Lokeren winger overcooks his cross.

47' - Jali plays a decent ball over the top for Gabuza, who shows good pace to beat Jammeh to the ball to win a free-kick and a yellow card for the defender.

HT: South Africa 0-0 Gambia. It hasn't been easy for either team but Gambia will be happy as they have kept the home team out, been physically imposing and had the better chances on the counter-attack. Much work to do in the second half for Bafana.

45+1' - Mahlangu gets his first sight of goal after a clever flick from Serero and lets rip from just outside the area but his low shot goes narrowly wide of the right-hand upright!

44' - Neat short-passing and movement between Serero, Patosi and Gabuza before Matlaba tries a shot from the corner of the box, but it's easy for Jobe in the Gambia goal.

40' - Khune with his trademark distribution finds Masango on a quick counter-attack, he plays Patosi down the right but his whipped-in cross is too close to the keeper.

39' - BAFANA SUB: Masango (ON) for Manyisa (OFF) presumably due to that knock he picked up earlier as Gambia have a half-chance from a corner but Khune comes off his line to thwart the danger.

37' - The game is very physical in the middle of the park and both Jali and Manyisa have been floored already. Tough game for Bafana so far and Gambia making most of the chances.

27' - Now Barrow's pace makes life difficult for Matlaba as the Gambia forward cuts inside onto his left foot and his shot takes a defection and almost falls to his teammate in the box. Bafana defence not comfortable.

25' - Gambia looking dangerous on the break as Colley's pace causes problems again down the left, but Matlaba makes an important clearance as the pass just fails to find Barrow steaming in.

20' - Patosi shows excellent technique from a direct free-kick as the dip of the ball deceives Jobe, who almost fumbles into his own net! The keeper punched the ball onto his own heel and just wide, lucky.

16' - Good, quick short-passing in the Bafana midfield between Serero, Jali and Patosi before Manyisa gets a shot away, straight at Jobe.

9' - CHANCE! Patosi plays Gabuza in behind the Gambia defence but his shot is saved by Jobe, the striker under pressure from a defender.

5' - Neither side able to hold possession very long in the opening few minutes, scrappy start, but Bafana starting to settle and stroke it around.

1' - Game is underway in Durban and Gambia win the first corner but it comes to nothing.

Bafana XI: Khune, Ngcongca (c), Coetzee, Hlatshwayo, Matlaba, Jali, Mahlangu, Serero (Ntshangase 65'), Manyisa (Masango 39'), Patosi, Gabuza (Phala 70')

Gambia XI: Jobe, Jammeh (c), Marreh, Savage (Mansally 64'), Jagne, Barrow, Colley, Sohna, Dibba, Nyassi, Ousman Koli (Ceesay 53')
