Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk will earn her 100th cap in a friendly against Namibia at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday (kick-off: 15h00).
She has made the second most appearances for the national women's side, with veteran striker Portia Modise hoping to make her 110th international outing tomorrow.
Van Wyk, who plays her club football for her own academy in Gauteng, said: “It absolutely is a phenomenal feeling, I really am astonished that I have reached this milestone in my career. I have always dreamt of playing for the national team and here I am reaching 100 caps.
"I have had some tough experiences in the team, coming in and having to deal with different cultures. My teammates have also made me feel welcomed in the team. The respect I get from them is amazing and Sunday will be an emotional day for me.”
Nicknamed ‘Booth’, Van Wyk made her Banyana debut against Nigeria in the African Women’s Championship in 2005.
Her most memorable moment in the green and gold strip was when Banyana recorded their first ever win over Nigeria since the women’s national team was formed in 1993. Van Wyk scored the only goal of that match, with Banyana knocking Nigeria out of the 2012 African Women’s Championships.
