Chiefs beat Chippa in 6-goal thriller

Posted: 20 July 2014 Time: 05:54 pm

Chippa United welcomed themselves as well as Kaizer Chiefs to their new home in Port Elizabeth through a pre-season friendly, in which Amakhosi came out 4-2 victors.

The match got off to a flying start as two goals in quick succession came from Andile Mbenyane and Kingston Nkatha in the opening 10 minutes.

Nkatha then assisted through winning a penalty for Chiefs after being brought down just inside the Chippa box, which Siphiwe Tshabalala cooly slotted home to give them a 2-1 lead.

Chippa passed the ball around with confidence and were causing all sorts of nightmares for the Chiefs defence, and it finally paid dividends as Siyabonga Zulu slotted beyond Itumeleng Khune after a good, low cross in from the right wing got the beating of Tefu Mashamaite and Morgon Gould.

The two sides went into the break, after an action-filled 45 minutes, deadlocked at two goals a piece.

At the break, Amakhosi and The Chilli Boys wasted no time in bringing on fresh legs and trying out new combinations, with a total of 10 subs being made, which saw Siphelele Mthembu being introduced for the first time since joining from Platinum Stars.

The second half got underway at much the same pace as the first due to the large number of subs, but it was Chiefs who made most of it by adding another two goals to the scoreline thanks to a Mashamaite header and a George Maluleka rocket in the dying seconds of the match.

Overall it was an exciting pre-season friendly which attracted a PE-crowd of 25 000-plus, who were far from starved of goals and entertainment.

Kosta Papic’s men put up a good fight in the first half, but ultimately the Glamour Boys’ depth in their squad allowed them to push for a deserved 4-2 victory over the PSL-returnees, and Baxter got a good look at his squad ahead of the much anticipated Carling Black Label Cup Derby next weekend.

I'm not impressed with our defense, I think its too erratic and YeYe. His best yrs r behind him, already 1 can tell his going to have a tough season and Shabbas commitment I question it! Gould is smelling problems already, Nkhatha has no confidence as a striker I would him to take penalties, a worrying factor!

Overall I welcome Mokgothu, Shaka Zulu and the Zim boy, I feel they will add value! This season we will enjoy G maluleka's football!

Gold is the only standard!

I think we still need to beef Up our squad, Dove Wome will come in handy, Qalinge, Dolly and another utility player! I mean between Nkosi and Wome who would score us goals and still play that lovely football, come on Booby!

Jealous is the one word they abuse. You tease them they say you are JEALOUS, they are all over teasing anything that threatens thier team. its football fans tease each other and sometimes excessively. get over.

Its better to win 1 nil playing a small team like Chippa United than to win 4-2....I mean conceding 2 goals with the so called towers protecting mzansi's number 1?....let's see what rats have in store for us in that beer cup on Saturday

Gaxa, Gould,Shabba nonsense! that karuru looks useful. what I liked is that he is good in basics and did not try much to impress. Gould is too slow, and not a good reader of the game. GAXA, does not look like he even played overseas and have international experience. can't even trap the ball, sis.
