Chiefs demolish Celtic in Gauteng Cup Final

Posted: 21 July 2013 Time: 04:58 pm

Knowledge Musona scored in his first match back for Kaizer Chiefs as they beat Bloemfontein Celtic 4-1 in the Gauteng Cup Final.

Willard Katsande, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Musona and Kaizer Motaung Jnr got the goals for Chiefs, while Thabo Nthethe scored a great header for Celtic.

Musona pulled a muscle in the second half and had to be replaced by Motaung Jnr.

It was a deserved victory for Amakhosi, who dominated the match – especially in the first half – and should have buried Celtic under an avalanche of goals.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys set the warning bells ringing as early as the fifth minute, when Siboniso Gaxa’s brilliant shot was parried over the bar by Siwelele goalkeeper Moses Thembalethu for a corner.

Musona could have given Chiefs the lead in the 15th minute, but his header missed target by few inches, after a great interchange of passes between him and  Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

After a lot of missed opportunities, Chiefs finally opened the scoring in the 32nd minute via the boot of Willard Katsande, who scored with a long-range scorcher after taking a few steps from the centre line.

Simphiwe Tshabalala made it 2-0 just before half-time with a spectacular bicycle kick, after being set up by George Lebese on the left flank, leaving Thembalethu rooted to the spot.

Celtic started the second half an improved side, after Clinton Larsen brought in Joel Mogorosi and Thabo Nthethe.

The substitutions soon brought dividends for Siwelele as Nthethe headed in a cross from Vuyani Ntanga in the 56th minute to reduce the deficit.

Musona warmed the hearts of the Amakhosi faithful despite the cold weather conditions in Tshwane when he increased the lead with a powerful shot inside the 18-yard area, after a square pass from Tsepho Masilela in the 67th minute.

Kaizer Motaung put the last nail in Siwelele’s coffin to complete Amakhosi’s victory and hand them a morale boost ahead of the new season.

Chiefs: Khune – Gaxa, Mashamaite, Gould, Masilela – Lebese, Katsande, Letsholonyane, Tshabalala – Majoro, Musona

Celtic: Moses – Leonard, Isaacs, Motlhaping, Mahoa – Stephens, Duiker, Nyatama, Makudubela – Ntanga, Mutuma

Gordinho looks promising, let's give him 2 seasons, we all know how South African football lovers love to sensationalise. For instance, how can you claim that a player who had only three touches is better than Andile Jali. Jali won 2 Championships, 4 Cups by the age of 22. He also convinced the Egyptian national team to rebuild their whole structure after single handedly demolishing their midfield in Cairo 2 seasons ago. As for Musona and Parker, these are two overrated failures who could have enhanced their footballing careers abroad but chose to come back to the PSL. Benni, the most successful South African footballer ever....played in Europe for a decade and a half, winning everything in the process and came back to help the Biggest club in Africa defend an unprecedented treble.

I truly feel disgusted and insulted by people calling this plastic a Gauteng cup. This should be called a Chiefs cup as I indicated it before to a Gauteng MES of sport. Just imagine getting Downs and Rats fighting each other in order to qualify to play zebras in the final. It would be a strong contempt and disgrace to both two teams playing as curtain-raiser. Unfortunately the small teams like Celtics and Supersport still need the publicity and exposure that's why they just eat "ditshila tsa thaka tsa bona".

Winning is a habit, it needs to be instilled within our players. Last season we whipped swallows 3 nil + Wits (cant remember the score) in this very same tournament & went on to win the league. Baxter should play this Gordinho guy in a 3-5-2 formation on a regular basis, he is a CB version of Yeye/Nkosi, he has that ability of releasing killer passes. Jnr also I think must be given more game time because we all know what a fit jnr can do when given a chance, I think he should be given that right flank since his brother doesn't want to purchase a top natural right flank. SALT & VINEGAR, Ajax must be regreting their decision of letting go of this soldier. GOLD.BOLD.GLAMOUR

Ghanaian champions Asante Kotoko lost 2-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns in their international friendly match played on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors came out to face the Brazilians at the Baba Yara Stadium despite being troubled by the shocking resignation of their chairman Dr. Desmond Sarpong.
Kotoko were also without their coach Mas-Ud Dramani whose future remains uncertain despite leading the side to a successful Premier League defence.
The Ghanaian champions however held their own against their South African opponents throughout the first half where the match headed into recess goalless.
Sundowns were however quicker off the block in the second half and forced the opening goal through Kotoko defender Smallboy Korbah.
The hosts tried as much as possible to get back on level terms but their efforts were thwarted by the numerous substitutions.
Sundowns also had their fair share of changes which saw Rashid Sumaila make his debut against the team he just won the Ghanaian Premier League title with.
The match looked destined for a slim win for Pitso Mosimane’s side until Zungu popped up with a late strike to double the lead for the Brazilians.
The win sees Sundowns win two of their three matches played on pre-season tour of Ghana.
Sundowns had beaten Liberty Professionals Academy 5-0 in a training match before drawing 1-1 with Hearts of Oak last Wednesday.

It comes as a big surprise to me that Kaizer's Chipmz make so much noise all for beating a tired Celtic Team...infact Celtic got more practise match than the chimpz because the competed in two matches while the mogoes from naturena only played one game...and the referees are still allowing this cow katsande to maime players at will without punishing this season abo referee bazoyiphakamisela umsila i chiefs like they did last season...

@R.U.M.A you are mad, if Jali sngle handedly destroyed the Egptians in Cairo, he will be number one on Bafana Bafana line up but unfortunately the boy cannot make it to the squad. He does not have skills and all he does is to rough up other players. The star in the Pirates team is Oupa Manyisa the rest are just mediocre players. People are comparing the young Mtshweni to Jali in terms of body physique not style of play. It is obvious that the young Mtshweni is a star for the future and you will be mad not to see that.

@Tshipa ka bo yellow you are a big fool, what is that your small team Sundowns achieved not to play another team so that they can play the Gauteng Champions. You thinking really exposed you as somebody who is illiterate. Celtic and Tuks played each to face Chiefs because, KC won the trophy last season with your stupid team competing but they failed to advance to the final after Swallows abused them in the semi final. If your team was participating again this season, they were going to play first for them to book a date with KC. Infact both Celtic and Tuks are of higher quality than your stupid team which spent the whole of last season fighting relegation and fail to make it to MTN 8. In contrast the two teams who played each other to meet the mighty KC are all in the MTN 8.

Some people are just idiot how on earth were Celtic players tired because they did not play the first game except Nyatama and one other player. Their coach when interviewed after the first match, he said he don't them struggling against the Mighty Amakhosi in the final because he had enough depth in the teams. He said he will use fresh legs and he did that using his regulars for the final. So this nonsense of Celtic tired from Rats retards does not hold water. Next is them on saturday, they will say after being abused, that it was a friendly game.

Do u and ur Gorilla Gayfair bros hate us that much or is it actually u showing us that u are all that envious that u can't reall see the what's the hype about?? Let me give u a hint then: 1. we are showing the same winning mentality (if not more ) that we used last season.. 2. We showed intend. 3. and last but not least, the referees have not helped us in anyway... We are an envy of many "so called big teams" in terms of administration, motivation, making wise business decisions, and not forgetting the support of course..... So to all bitter/hateful Virgin Maphaphaneya Gayfair gorillas: Keep ur "defensive-minded" Roba Je Sa whilst we enjoy our "master tactician" Sir Baxter.... GOLD.BOLD.GLAMOUR..........................
