Chippa back at Philippi

Chippa United have been handed a boost after the PSL finally approved the use of their home ground – Philippi Stadium – for night matches paving way for the struggling club to play all their four remaining crucial home games at their preferred base.
The Chilli Boys have been forced to use Athlone Stadium for all but just two of their League home games to date but following an inspection tour by the PSL’s Professor Ronnie Schloss that included assessment of the new floodlights on Wednesday the club can now use their home even for night games.
“Prof Ronnie Schloss was here on Wednesday night at 21h00 to test the lights at Philippi and after that inspection he immediately gave us the green light to use the stadium for night games which means we will now play all our remaining home games at our real home.
“We are a township club and we need to remain significant to the people that we represent by playing our games where they live.
“Considering the situation that we are in at the moment this is a huge boost for us…three points are more important right now and having a home is a huge motivation. If we win all the four home games we will have done ourselves a huge favour in the bid to survive,” says Lukanyo Mzinzi, the Chippa spokesman.
Chippa will play their next three home games against Golden Arrows, Moroka Swallows and Ajax Cape Town under floodlights at Philippi before wrapping up their home programme with an afternoon tie against Tuks.
Chippa had built Philippi into a slaughterhouse during their first division campaign but upon promotion they were informed the facility was not up to PSL standards.
Meanwhile, the basement club has confirmed the signing of Keamogetse Wolff – who was offloaded by Ajax in January – and Senegalese midfielder Issa Sairr.
Wolff has been signed following injury to Tshepo Tomanyane at left-back while Sairr will stabilise the midfield.
